Bringing the Demoscene spirit into the future, reimagining a classic game music through community, creativity, and innovation.
This request will expire on 2025-04-20.
We’re bringing the Demoscene spirit into the present with the S-11 Remix Competition, launched in collaboration with Label Radar. This competition revisits Project S-11, a 25-year-old video game soundtrack born from the same underground movement that pushed the limits of early digital art, coding, and sound. Now, we’re inviting today’s producers and remixers to put their own spin on it, keeping the ethos of experimentation and technical artistry alive. For the competition, we’ve released both new reimaginings and the original 8-bit stems, challenging artists to merge old-school composition with modern production. Pre-contest remixers include:
Melle Mel – Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, rap pioneer
K’Alexi – Chicago house legend, featured in Daft Punk’s Teachers
The Good Girls – Chicago Dance and house-infused vocal trio
Joe Smooth – Producer of The Promised Land, Nelson Mandela’s anthem
Salva – Roc Nation Grammy-nominated producer and DJ
This is more than a remix contest. We'd love to release an official album featuring the winners, using smart contracts to bridge Web2 and Web3, ensuring artists have clearer ownership and monetization paths, something the Demoscene ethos always championed: creative independence through technology.
By embracing the hacker mentality of the Demoscene, this is our first experiment in applying similar models across film and music and hoping to scale this into a broader framework for digital creators.
